Since her first six book series, I’ve been a massive fan of Richelle Mead.
In fact, Vampire Academy sparked my interest in reading at all. Till now, I have finished the books about Rose Hathaway, the spin off series Bloodlines (reviewed from book 3) and, with this book, those about Georgina Kincaid. The succubus had a special place in my heart from early on. I especially liked her dynamics with her group of friend. They are truly creatures of hell but in the most endearing way. I always loved coming back to Seattle and re-meeting Peter, Cody, Hugh, Jerome, and also the angel Carter. Especially the last one. He was my favorite from the beginning and not even Seth, or later Roman, could compete with him. But in this final installment, Richelle Mead made sure to give them all time and space to show their special sides and use it.
Hell made desperate, soulless creatures out of its employees–and most certainly liked it that way–but I doubted any of the higher-ups had imagined the levels of friendship we were still capable of managing.

More than with the characters, the author reconciled a lot of loose threads. Given that I enjoyed the fifth book the least out of all in this series, this felt very satisfying. There were even plot elements that I forgot about over the years it took me to read this series. But Richelle Mead cleverly and naturally brought them back into our consciousness. She always has a great way to do a „previously on…“ without having it seem forced at all. Instead, the needed information effortlessly flows into our protagonist’s stream of consciousness. Bound to her perspective, there were quite a lot of surprises for the readers in this last adventure. We got to see unexpected sides in a lot of characters but they all made sense to me, nothing seemed completely out of place. Instead, one could find threads and developments to go through all previous books. And that, I simply adored!
Succubi, demons, imps, vampires, angels, and bowling – this book has it all. While the finale installment surely has some of the most emotional scene, it also made me laugh out loud a lot. I adore Richelle’s thus Georgina’s humour, her teasing, her friends realizing her being hurt by the lack thereof. We go through a lot of revelations and drama with her in this finale, but the slight sarcastic undertone in her thoughts holds a brilliant balance. This way, we can enjoy the heartbreak, feel it deep down but simultaneously know for certain that Georgina is not giving up that fast. Together with her friend, she will overcome the apparently greatest challenge of her century-long life. And this group of friends will surely stay on my top list for the rest of eternity.

Love saves the day? You will have to see for yourself. I simply want to say that I adored the slight Euridice and Orpheus vibes this book gave me. We see Seth and Georgina’s relationship evolve some more, fave new challenges, and potentially defeat them. But playing with heaven and hell, there might be some battles they simply cannot win. Not even with heir supernatural friends. Not only new characters will eventually trouble their waters. Georgina’s long past will also hunt her down in very unexpected ways. I loved to read every tiny piece of supposedly side information coming together beautifully. Richelle Mead surely outdid herself with this finale book, although the end of Bloodlines and Vampire Academy are strong competitors.
In conclusion
After the fifth, rather disappointing book of this series, I am glad to have had a blast while reading this finale installment. And more than that. This sixth adventure brought together all threads, all friends, all foes, and all the emotions I ever felt for Georgina. Her story is empowering and genius and such a wonderful reading experience. It’s truly hard to say goodbye to her and her most amazing friends as much as this intriguing world.
