Hallo ihr Buchreisenden,
ich bin schon etwas baff, dass ich nun den letzten Lesemonat für 2023 zusammenfasse. Das Jahr ist nur so dahingeflogen. Ich habe so viele neue Erfahrungen gesammelt und so viele wundervolle Geschichten entdeckt. Nächsten Donnerstag fasse ich euch auch mein gesamtes Jahr 2023 zusammen, doch heute geht es erst einmal nur um den Dezember. In diesem finalen Monat habe ich noch einmal einiges gelesen, bzw. eher gehört, während ich unterwegs war. Ich habe meine Statistik wahrlich noch einmal gepusht und tolle Erzählungen verfolgt. 96) Winston Brothers 3: Beard Science – Penny Reid
This third book got darker and spicier for sure but was nonetheless as hilarious and comfortable as the second one that I adore. Not only Jennifer and Cletus‘ interactions granted me a good time, I also loved every family scene. The Winston family is on its way to become my favorite fictional one and I am eager to follow the other siblings‘ stories in the future.

97) Klar ist es Liebe – Sandy Hall
Eine originell geschriebene Liebesgeschichte, die uns nur über die Perspektiven Außenstehender einen Einblick in die Köpfe der Hauptfiguren ermöglicht. Dieser Umstand tut der emotionalen Bindung, die wir in der Kürze der Geschichte aufbauen, jedoch keinen Abbruch. Nett und tiefgründiger als erwartet für zwischendurch.

98) Happy Place – Emily Henry
Nachdem ich jahrelang um diese Autorin geschlichen bin, hatte ich dank Knaur und Argon nun endlich die Möglichkeit, ihre Geschichten zu erleben. Und nun kann ich den Hype wahrlich nachvollziehen. Happy Place ist humor- aber auch gefühlvoll, romantisch aber auch rational, verspielt und jugendlich aber auch erwachsen und echt. Harriet, ihre Freund*innen und ihr Freund haben mir eine wundervolle Lesezeit beschert und sind mein Einstieg in noch viele weitere Bücher von Emily Henry.

99) Endgame: The Calling – James Frey
I once more regret not immediately reading a book after buying it. Picking this one up—even as an audio book—several years later was nonetheless no less of a pleasure. James Frey not only creates diverse and appealing characters but an enigmatic world and quest for them to decode. I surely hope to keep the most essential clues in mind until I read the next book of the series.

100) I’ll give you the Sun – Jandy Nelson
Although I wasn’t expecting Jandy Nelson to emotionally move my current self as she did with my seven years younger one, she surely did. It took me not even two pages to fall for Noah, but about two of Jude’s chapters to fall for her. Eventually, both of their perspectives drew me in and made my heart skip beats through their intense relationship to each other and to their individual love interests. With this, Jandy Nelson granted us another moving and important YA story about loss, family, hope, and love.

101) Enchantée: All that glitters – Gita Trelease
This book surely had everything I was promised. It further transported me to the pre-revolutionary Paris and Versailles. The author surely captivated the tense atmosphere as much as the hope associated with the impending change. Between classes and due to the blurring lines of Camille’s self and disguise, she took us on an entertaining adventure.

102) Whiteout – Dhonielle Clayton, Tiffany D Jackson, Nic Stone, Angie Thomas, Ashley Woodfolk, Nicola Yoon
Set within the framework of one big romantic gesture, the authors tell us many shorter but no less authentic and moving love stories. They chose some of my favorite tropes and thoroughly engaged with their characters’ feelings and insecurities. I enjoyed every single of these stories and was put in the perfect Christmas mood.

103) It’s a Fabulous Life – Kelly Farmer
This queer pre-Christmas love story was truly engaging and entertaining. Although most of the story was predictable due to the genre, I enjoyed the unexpected twists and the dynamic between the characters. This certainly is a book worth spending your pre-Christmas time with.

104) Near to the wild heart – Clarice Lispector
Lispector surely is a remarkable writer with a modernist, quite challenging style. I enjoyed her protagonist’s odd- and stubbornness given her surroundings, but unfortunately was only emotionally affected by few scenes and moments. I filled in the text’s gaps but got few confirmations of my interpretations, which demonstrates the literariness of this book.

Between scripted and real feelings for her sudden co-star, Alexis Dara’s protagonist tries to find herself–also in an intercultural sense. Her co-star on the other side attempts balancing his private and public life as an arising star. They both hilariously and movingly get to see through their facades and learn to trust and love each other within publicity chaos–spice included.

106) Die Wissenschaft von Game of Thrones – Jean-Sébastien Steyer
Die Kapitel dieser Sammlung untersuchen die von George R. R. Martin kreierte Welt und deren Charaktere durch wissenschaftliche Filter der Geologie, Linguistik, Psychologie, etc. Dabei bieten sie lehrreiche Überblicke über die grundlegenden Ansätze der Disziplin und wenden diese dann im Detail und auf faszinierende Weise auf Game of Thrones und die originale Buchreihe an.

Wie ihr sehen könnt, habe ich in meinem letzten Monat noch einmal einiges nachgelegt. So habe ich nicht nur meine Lesechallenge geschafft, sondern auch ein paar schon seit Langem auf meinem SuB liegende Bücher abhaken. So kann ich mit viel neuem Elan in das Jahr 2024 starten. In einer Woche fasse ich euch mein komplettes Lesejahr zusammen und spreche auch ein wenig über meine Pläne für das neue Jahr. Für den Moment kann ich nur sagen, dass ich sehr zufrieden bin und mir deswegen in 2024 mehr Freiheiten erlauben will. Aber mehr dazu demnächst…
