Dear fellow Heartstopper fans,
pure agony and anticipation followed me throughout the last two weeks. I intially wanted to watch the new season of Heartstopper the day it aired. Then, I promised a friend to watch it with them. We still haven’t gotten around to do that. So the last weekend, I threw a little watch party with two friends and binged these new eight episodes. I watched the first season in 2022, but missed these idiotic but endearing characters for way too long. It was time to renew my memories with them.
I always loved the third volume of the comics most. Set in Paris, it takes us foremost through Nick’s struggle with coming out to more than Charlie’s friends. We also get to know way more about his complicted, only partly accepting family. The series adaptation also focused on Nick’s problems and insecurities. Therefore, it cut a bit from Charlie’s individual development from the book.
The series is not limited to Charlie’s point of view, as the comics mostly are.
Thus, we get to explore other characters‘ stories more intensely. Tao und Elle, Tara and Darcy, Sahar, Imogen, Isaac, and even Ben become way more three-dimensional. I loved the parts that the series added to the comic original. They gave us the cutet and most oving additions next to the truthful depictions of our favorite moments. And if they cut something, the talented actors, especially Joe Locke and Kit Connor, made sure to fill their performance to give us all their torn emotions.
The show does not only tell a beautiful, emotional story but also makes it come alive through amazing music and comic-style insersions. In Paris, we are met with French music that made my heart jump alike the sparks between our couples. But this season is about more than love and vacation. Although the show starts all fun and new experiences, all characters struggle one way or another. I especially loved Isaac’s journey in this season that reminded me a lot of Georgia’s story in Loveless, a book featured in several episodes. With Isaac and Sahar, the show added not only intriguing characters but also more beautiful mirrors for adolescent spectators.
This season covers about the third volume, including all favorite surprises and plot twists.
I loved Charlie’s patience and understanding. I adored Nick’s bravery and maturity by the episodes‘ end. Seeing his family on screen put me on an emotional rollercoaster but he made me soooo proud once more. Shoutout to Tori as well for being the most supportive big sister ever! I also want to highlight how much I adore Olivia Coleman in this show, as she is more than I ever wished to see in a supportive parent.
This season needs to be rewatched for sure – with all of its cute as much as its heartbreaking moments. The episodes flew by too quickly but were pure art and pride and courage and friendship and love. I cannot find one thing that is too much or, contrary, not enough. These characters are layered, not perfect, but aiming to be their bst version and I love everyone of them for it. Thanks so much for this beautiful season! To at least one more!
In den letzten zwei Wochen spürte ich pure Qual und Vorfreude. Ursprünglich wollte ich die neue Staffel von Heartstopper gleich am Erscheinungstag sehen. Dann habe ich einem Freund versprochen, sie gemeinsam mit them zu sehen. Wir sind immer noch nicht dazu gekommen. Also habe ich am letzten Wochenende mit zwei Freundinnen eine kleine Fernsehparty veranstaltet und die acht neuen Folgen durchgeschaut. Ich habe die erste Staffel im Jahr 2022 gesehen, aber diese idiotischen, aber liebenswerten Charaktere viel zu lange vermisst. Es war an der Zeit, meine Erinnerungen an sie zu erneuern.
Der dritte Band der Comics hat mir immer am besten gefallen. Er spielt in Paris und führt uns vor allem durch Nicks Kampf mit seinem Coming-out. Wir erfahren auch viel mehr über seine komplizierte, nur teilweise akzeptierende Familie. Auch die Serienadaption konzentrierte sich auf Nicks Probleme und Unsicherheiten. Deshalb wurde Charlies individuelle Entwicklung aus dem Buch ein wenig gekürzt. Die erste Staffel sah ich mir Mitte 2022 (Woche #18, Woche #19) an, dabei kommt es mir schon so lange her vor, dass ich Charlie und Nick begleitet habe. Kurz davor las ich auch Volume 2 bis 4 der Comics von Alice Oseman. Dementsprechend vermisste ich diese liebenswerten Idioten sehr.
Die Serie ist nicht auf Charlies Sichtweise beschränkt ist, wie es in den Comics meist der Fall ist.
Dadurch können wir die Geschichten anderer Figuren intensiver erleben. Tao und Elle, Tara und Darcy, Sahar, Imogen, Isaac und sogar Ben werden viel plastischer. Ich habe die Teile geliebt, die die Serie der Comicvorlage hinzugefügt hat. Sie haben uns neben den wahrheitsgetreuen Darstellungen unserer Lieblingsmomente die süßesten und bewegendsten Momente geschenkt. Und wenn sie etwas weggelassen haben, haben die talentierten Schauspieler, vor allem Joe Locke und Kit Connor, dafür gesorgt, dass ihre Darbietung komplexe Gefühle zeigen.
Die Show erzählt nicht nur eine schöne, emotionale Geschichte, sondern lässt sie auch durch tolle Musik und comic-haften Einschübe lebendig werden. In Paris werden wir mit französischer Musik empfangen, die mein Herz ebenso zum Hüpfen brachte wie die Funken zwischen unseren Paaren. Aber in dieser Staffel geht es um mehr als Liebe und Urlaub. Obwohl die Serie mit viel Spaß und neuen Erfahrungen beginnt, haben alle Figuren auf die eine oder andere Weise zu kämpfen. Ich mochte besonders Isaacs Entwicklung, die mich sehr an Georgias Geschichte in Loveless erinnert hat. Das Buch kommt sogar in mehreren Episoden vor Mit Isaac und Sahar fügt die Serie nicht nur faszinierende Charaktere hinzu, sondern auch weitere schöne Spiegel für jugendliche Zuschauer.
Die zweite Staffel deckt ungefähr den dritten Band ab.
Somit umfasst sie auch alle meine Lieblingsüberraschungen und -wendungen. Ich habe Charlies Geduld und Verständnis geliebt. Ich bewunderte Nicks Mut und Reife am Ende der Episoden. Seine Familie auf dem Bildschirm zu sehen, hat mich auf eine emotionale Achterbahnfahrt geschickt. Doch er machte mich wieder einmal soooo stolz. Ein großes Lob auch an Tori, die die unterstützendste große Schwester aller Zeiten ist! Ich möchte auch betonen, wie sehr ich Olivia Coleman in dieser Serie bewundere, denn sie ist mehr, als ich mir jemals von einem unterstützenden Elternteil gewünscht hätte.
Diese Staffel muss man sich auf jeden Fall noch einmal ansehen – mit all ihren niedlichen wie auch herzzerreißenden Momenten. Die Episoden vergingen viel zu schnell, aber sie waren pure Kunst und Stolz und Mut und Freundschaft und Liebe. Ich kann nicht eine Sache finden, die zu viel oder, im Gegenteil, nicht genug ist. Diese Charaktere sind vielschichtig, nicht perfekt, aber sie streben danach, ihre beste Version zu sein, und ich liebe jeden von ihnen dafür. Vielen Dank für diese schöne Staffel!
